Help, musty smell in my drawers?

Question:How do you get the musty smell out of the drawers on a antique dresser? i've tried airing out, but the smell is still there.

Answers:
some people keep those poe-poor-ee sahchet thingies in the drawer, but i think youre looking for a deoderizer..

so i say baking soda. it works in the fridge, on carpet, and by my own experience, in this little dorm room that always has funky smells..

so either just put it on a plate and leave it inside and change it every few days, or just dump it everywhere and vacumm it up in a few days.

Put a nice smelling soap or vanilla candle in it and it should change the smell completely.
lavender. in little sachets. to leave in the drawers.
you can buy special cedar balls that you can put in your drawers..it will give you a nice wooden scent to compliment the antique wood..you can buy them anywhere but the cheapest place is Wal Mart..
Get a plate and soak a cotton ball in vanilla extract and place on plate and then put in drawer for a couple of hours.
Baking soda or charcoal will get the stink out. Leave it for a few days (3 or more) to be sure. Then add some lavander (Real sprigs if you want or a few drops of essence or even a bar of soap) to whatever you next keep in there to keep the draw smelling sweet and inviting!
You can get scented drawer liners (made of paper). Cut to size and then leave shut without clothes for a couple of hours, and then put clothes in - sprayed with Fabreze - which eliminates smells. Hope this helps. You could, at the same time put some lace doilies (cheap in some shops) around bars of soap threading some pretty ribbon round the outside so soap is contained and tie off to keep the soap inside. You will need two doilies per soap.
Air it out...take the drawers out into the sun for a day
put a fan where it blows into the chest ... if that does not work
lightly sand the inside .. this will work!
Use small sachets of pot-pourier, and u can damp them a little bit with pot-pourie oil.

from your kitchen, u can use sticks of cinnamon and vanilla beans.
First you need to get the smell out, put a cup of baking soda
on a saucer in each drawer, for a few (3 or 4) days this will
absorb the smell, if you use sprays or potporri that will only mask the smells After the mustyness is gone try using scented drawer liners. good luck.
I've heard that placing dryer sheets (like Bounce, etc.) in the drawers will help. Not sure but it's worth a try! I also would think that baking soda might do the trick. Maybe sprinkle a little when the drawers are empty, or put some in a small container with holes punched in the top and leave it there. Another idea is to rub the surfaces with a cut lemon, or wipe with fresh lemon juice.
Put either a box of baking soda (one of those nifty fridge packs they make now would be good) or a few dryer sheets in the bottom. Either one will help dramaticly.
I have been using essential oils to freshen the closets in my old house and it would work in your dresser drawers, too. I put some oil on a paper towel and put it in a small dish. My favorite is peppermint, but they come in all kinds of scents. Choose your favorite.
I use fabric softener sheets in my drawers. I find it keeps everything smelling fresh. I find this drowns out the smell of the wood from the dresser. It might work on the musty smell as well.
Try washing your behind real good before you put your drawers on.
Dryer sheets..they have many uses besides making your clothes soft. You can also use them in you suitcase when traveling to keep you clothes fresh.
you can put a saucer of ground coffee in the drawer.shut it for a day and the smell should be gone..also try USED dryer sheets...
