Do Roomba robot vacuum cleaners actually vacuum, or are they just sweepers?

They are great- We bought my Mother one for Christmas, and she loves it, as tiny as they are, they pick alot, she has a white pomeranian and it picks up all of his hairs, if your thinking of getting one- they really are worth the expense!

We have one, and it is much more effective - particularly on carpet - than a sweeper. It has a bit of trouble moving around on deep, loose shag carpet, but it's great on hard floors, rugs and other carpet types.
