How do you remove a stain on suede?
Question:I have this lovely tan brown suede skirt that ended up getting a stain on it. I have no idea where the stain came from or what caused it. The label says I can't dry clean it, or use a spot cleaner. I've only worn the skirt once and would hate to have to get rid of it because of this. Is there a safe way to remove the stain? It's on the upper front of the skirt.
Answers:
You need a leather cleaner, which is different from dry cleaning. Take it to your dry cleaner and ask if they have a leather cleaner that does leather cleaning for them or if they can recommend a leather cleaner for you.
Gently rub with small amount of corn meal. It will absorb just about anything- and the stain is most likely some oil or grease.
Don't throw away the skirt- if nothing works wear a trendy pin over the spot- unless it is the size and shape of the State of California
I would leave it to the professionals. Not all dry cleaners are good with leather by any means, so you'll have to research/call some dry cleaners in your area. They'll know the secret method to remove spots from suede. I've actually ruined a pair of gorgeous suede boots by messing with them myself, so I'm gun shy about trying to clean any suede myself. I hope the pros can help you, and you'll get to wear your skirt again! The skirt sounds gorgeous, good luck to you.
Take it to a leather cleaner. They will, at least, be able to tell you if it can be removed.
