How to remove a carpet stain without a carpet cleaner?

Question:Someone spilt a smoothie drink on the carpet and left it overnight. I tried to remove it the next day with washing up liquid and water. At first it seemed to have worked but now it is becoming more obvious. Any suggestions?

Remove carpet stains

You can lift out many stains from your carpet with vinegar:
Rub light carpet stains with a mixture of 2 tablespoons salt dissolved in 1/2 cup white vinegar. Let the solution dry, then vacuum.

For larger or darker stains, add 2 tablespoons borax to the mixture and use in the same way.

For tough, ground-in dirt and other stains, make a paste of 1 tablespoon vinegar with 1 tablespoon cornstarch, and rub it into the stain using a dry cloth. Let it set for two days, then vacuum.

To make spray-on spot and stain remover, fill a spray bottle with 5 parts water and 1 part vinegar. Fill a second spray bottle with 1 part nonsudsy ammonia and 5 parts water. Saturate a stain with the vinegar solution. Let it settle for a few minutes, then blot thoroughly with a clean, dry cloth. Then spray and blot using the ammonia solution. Repeat until the stain is gone.

Good Luck !

Use laundry pre-wash
you could have 'set' the stain, but you could try removing it again by using warm water, white vinegar, and a little dishwashing liquid. really wet the area rubbing up and down not in circles with the water, vinegar & d/washing liquid, get some thick towels folded up and place over really wet area and stamp on thick towels to draw out water and stain. you may have to do this a couple of times. as towels get wet replace with dry ones. hopefully this will remove stain. 2 cups water to 1/4 cup vinegar, with a drop or 2 of dishwashing liquid.
shout it out
It may sound corny (as I thought) but a carpet cleaner salesman turned me on to using Windex.
How clever and YES it works..even on blood and grease (ammonia based).

Spray it on liberally (it doesn't turn the carpet any different color) and rub it in with your fingertips to create a foam and make sure you press deep.
Let it set a few minutes and start scrub-wiping up with a clean dry towel or cloth (one that is absorbant)

If you need to repeat because of the age of the stain then do so.

I have also used OXY MAGIC successfully as well - it worked great on my laundry stains.
I do the following to remove any drink, food, dirt stains on carpets:
hot water in a bowl,a small amount of washing powder,or a quarter of a washing tablet, and a scrubbing brush, and scrub the stain, then when the stain is dry after washing it,use clean hot water in the bowel and a tea-towel,and just dab a bit of hot water on the towel, and wipe away any soap that is left behind.leave to dry and the stain should be gone.
this works all the time for me,so hopefully it should work for you.
good luck,anyway.
Have you tried using salt. add a small amount of cold water to the stain and pour salt on top, rinse with cold water sponge. Use a little of your own hair shampoo to clean the carpet, it works just as well as any carpet shampoo. Once this has been done and you have rinsed the carpet , again using a cold water sponge. Lay a towel with a heavy object on top of the wet area , this will help dry up any water from the underside of your carpet . Leave over night like this, I suggest you have the carpet steam cleaned at a later date , as sooner or later , the water mark always reaches the surface. Hope this is of some help to you
