Borax and salt, it will shrivel them right up. You can find borax in the laundry section with the brighteners. Mix the two, vacuum the carpet to treat, shake the mix on your carpet, use a broom to work it in, then let it set for about 12 hours. Vacuum again and throw out the bag immediately. Repeat the next day. Borax is the main ingredient in those flea powders, but this you will have to repeat because it doesn't use the extra chemicals. Eventually you'll get them all, especially if you do it RIGHT away.
Another good one is leaving the house for the day, then turn up your heat WAY up, this will cook them. I've never tried it but sworn true by lots of people.

To get them out of carpets, sprinkle salt on them (the carpets, not the fleas). The fleas eat the salt and it kills them.

Fleas are attracted by light, at night, if you want to get rid of fleas, try to turn off a few lights and you will see the diference, also air conditioning is good, the like warm environments.
Go to Lowes or Home Depot. They have these gallon jugs of spray that are specifically for fleas. Don't remember the name but the stuff made for fleas really kills fleas.They work great.

I bought mule borax detergent and sprinkled it on almost everything and let it sit for days till i vaccumed then repeated again with borax..
I put it under cushions. under mattress and in crevises thru the house. put a thin line around edges of floor board and carpet.. every place the cat couldnt really get to to lick.. thats the only thing.. cat should not lick or eat it.

Salt...it's simple and easy.
Sprinkle your carpet in it...let it sit for a few minutes...then vacuum your floor. The salt actually kills the fleas.

not really cheap but the flea drops you get at the vet are best, advantix or revoloution, we were over run by fleas with 6 cats, we got that stuff, one tube per cat, and in a month the cats were flea free and so were the carpets, you must use it every month, our vet sold it for 5 bucks a tube so it was 30 dollars a month for all those cats but it was impossible to live with it any other way, they go out too but dont bring any more back, sometimes a tick will ride in on them but it wont bite into them because of that stuff, the newest ones also kill the heartworm bugs, i suppose they cost more though.
mint sprinkled over the carpet should repel them...fresh works best
If the fleas are on your dog, give him/her a bath with dish washing liquid. If the fleas are in your carpet sprinkle Sevin powder in your carpet, let it sit and then vacuum it up
