Why does my hot water in the shower turn cold after 2 minutes?

Probably one of three things - Either you live in an apartment with shared water heating, or you live in a house with lots of other people who use hot water. In this case, the water heater's capacity is being maxed out and it cant produce enough hot water fast enough to satisfy all the hot water needs, especially if you tend to shower at the same time the washing machine or dishwasher is running.
OR - you simply need to turn up the thermostat on the hot water heater. It may be set very low, and is making warm water instead of hot water and it quickly runs out when you shower. Set the dial to a higher setting and it will make much hotter water which when mixed with the cold water will make warm water that last alot longer.
OR - as said above, your water heater is on the fritz and may need repair.
You may need to have your water heater checked. It may be ready to die. Also when you switch the water from the bath faucet to the shower head does water still come through the tub faucet? If so call a plumber, there is a washer that need replacing.
Probably a problem with either your water heater or your shower head. The water heater could be working perfectly, but your shower head could be letting out more water than it usually does (The same amount of water is getting heated, it's just all coming out at once instead of a little at a time).
You should check your water heater. It may be going out. Call a professional.
sounds like you need a new dip tube.
check out the thermostat on the outside of the tank, it can be turned up to raise the hot temp. Sounds like maybe the heating element is going out.
You really need to call a plumber and get it checked. The hot water tank can get caught on fire if messed with.
Sounds like a heating element has burned out. They a easy to replace. Ask the guys at the counter at your local appliance store ( Lowe's or home Depot). they will be able to tell you how to replace it yourself. Good Luck
