Is it wasteful to use a clothes dryer during the summer?
Question:the lady i live with says it wastes lots of energy to dry my clothes in the dryer when the weather is nice and she is like, making me use the clothesline. i really don't want to, so can anyone give me some good excuses or proof that it doesn't waste a lot of energy to use the dryer?

Tell her you are wasting valuable time and time is more valuable than energy. You can never get time back!
I think it is becasue some times it might be windy and if you are going somewhere and you found it still wet, you might get really mad.
do u know that dryer will make your clothes fade out faster that drying it our naturally? bcoz hot air can loose out your panty and bra line. but natural heat under the sun will do any harm...
Actually if you run the clothes thru the dryer for about 5-10 minutes and then hang them out quickly, they come out fine. Otherwise hanging clothes out straight out of the washer lets wrinkles set in for some fabrics, resulting in ironing--which nobody wants to do in the summer! Towels come out scratchy. Jeans come out stiff. Compromise, run them for a few minutes in the dryer and hang them out immediately..she won't be totally happy but you'll avoid the hassle.
well when i used to use a clothes wire to dry my clothes they smelled all musty because of the air
so ive always used a dryer
say you have allergies so you have to use special dryer sheets so you wont sneeze all the time

If you have the time and the location to hang your laudry to dry, I would during warm dry times. I does cut on your bills, and helps the environvemt. I know not all loads can be put "on the line" but a little does really help. In summer I try to dry all on the line except the unmentionables.
Of course it is wasteful and lazy of you to use the dryer if you have nice weather and a clothesline available. That said, most clothing comes off a clothesline wrinkled and needs to be ironed. So there goes your energy savings!
I grew up with nothing but a clothesline, and when I designed my ranch house I had a clothes line put in. I also have a computer programed washer and a very nice dryer. I use all three in various combinations. I wash my bath towels, hang them out until they are almost dry and finish them in the dryer. Because I cannot use scented products like detergent, dryer sheets, etc. I love the clean smell of clothes dried in the sun and wind. But I also like the softness of fluff drying. Heavy jeans same way. Delicate and wash&wear clothing go right into the dryer. I hate to iron! Winter flannel sheets, all blankets, comforters, and sweatshirts/pants go on the line until they are almost dry and then fluffed. My expensive lingerie, bras, hoisery etc. are dried in mesh bags in the dryer on low heat. All cotton underwear, socks, dish towels etc go into the dryer.
a couple of points you need to know if you choose to line dry. Your washing is going to pick up dust, pollen and smog pollution if it is dried outside. I would not dry my washing outside in Los Angeles, for instance. Strong sunlight will fade dark colors. Nothing with elastic or rubber in it should be line dried. Again, sunlight is hard on elastic.
And, if you are a working person or a student and have limited time for your chores, a dryer is a blessing. Just be sure to remove and fold the clothes as soon as possible when they are done.
Well let me say this, It is nice at times to put your clothes on the line. My dryer has been out since Dec and I have had no choice but to use the line. I have seen no change in my power bill. Maybe 5 dollars. MAYBE. So personally, I dont think it makes that big of a difference.
Your towels will feel horrible...they will be stiff and scratchy. Your jeans, if you choose to hang them...will look and feel like they will walk by themselves!
Sheets do pretty well if you hang them out...but the sun will fade out some colors quicker. And don't get caught out when it rains...you'll have to spend more energy and time re-washing everything. The only thing that really matters is if you have the time and energy to devote to this particular chore.
How can it waste energy? If you are using the energy to dry your clothes, then it is not wasted! I prefer to line dry my clothes, but I put some in the dryer for a few minutes first, just to help with softness and wrinkles. Using the sun to bleach your whites instead of using bleach is a benefit though. If you are prone to allergies or asthma then line drying may not be in your best interest. Pollen from outdoors will attach to your clothes and may make symptoms worse. I think it is a personal choice, one that you need to make.
Auto Dry cycles on the dryer does not waste energy.
