Keeping my trousers and shirts pristine?
Question:I buy a pair of trousers, and after a week they look worn. The crease in the middle starts to decrease, and I can't iron a pristine crease anymore. I'm not going to buy a trouser press. I don't know if they even work. Another thing; my shirts come out of the wash, and they still have stubborn stains on them (armpits). Does dry cleaning have better results than normal washing, and do they iron your shirts and trousers for you to that pristine new finish?
Answers:
I take all of my husbands work clothes - trousers and dress shirts to the cleaners. They do a much better job than I could ever do.
As for the stains in the armpits you need to wear an undershirt. That way the undershirt will get stained if you sweat and not your nice dress shirt.
Charlies right - also have the cleaners use starch in the shirts and slacks - makes a huge difference.
First I can suggest you buy some good old fashioned soap , bar soap. You can buy this in most hardware stores, Sounds you are a busy person, but if you soak your shirts in cold water, rub the soap into the stains, then pop into the machine . Best hanging your shirts outside in the sun . The sun will do the rest of the work for you , by bleaching out any remaining stain´s the natural way. The trouser´s always wash them turned inside out, like this they will last longer and won´t look worn out. Once they come from the machine ,hang them on a hanger to dry, they will be easier to iron, also another idea is when youhave a shower take the trouser´s into the bathroom with you, the steam will help keep the crease, & if you iron them straight after coming from the shower , even better, a bit like steam cleaning them
I agree with all the other comments, but, you should invest in a hand held steamer. That way you don't have to struggle to put creases in, the new Tobi steamer is marvellous and will virtually do your clothes while they are hung in the wardrobe!
Try to pre-treat stains before you wash shirts, vanish or whatever. Or take them to the cleaners and get them treated and washed there - point out what you want them to try and get rid of at the counter. Get a permanent crease in your trousers at the cleaners then you wont need to press one in when you iron them. Get a 'fabric shaver' from the cleaners, about a fiver, to get bits of worn fabric off the finish on materials - they are really simple to use.
Have you noticed that all the answers to this question come from women. C'mon girls let him struggle with his sweaty shirts and uncreased trousers. We've carried these men around long enough. Women of the world unite, leave the washing and ironing and we'll all watch tele with a large G&T.
