Which do you think cleans better...a dishwasher or washing dishes by hand? Why?

Question:

Answers:
I think a dishwasher because the water is hotter then you could stand to put yr hands in...also the dish washing deterrent seems to be stronger...I had some plastic bowls that i could never get the stains out of...when i got my dishwasher and washed them in it they came out sparkling clean.

dishwashing washes dishes at higher temps reducing germs, but sometimes misses food particles.

hand washing you get missed spots as you go, you wouldn't put a half washed dish in the drainer.

it's a toss up!
Define 'cleans better'. A dishwasher sterilizes better by using hotter water than you can put your hand in. But hand washing removes dried-on, crusty or greasy food better than a dishwasher can.
How well do you hand wash the dishes? A good dish-washer, used properly ie only when FULL, so as not to waste water, detergent, electricity etc and packed in the best possible manner, is also very good. The preference is yours, depending on your lifestyle [entertaining a little or a lot] whether you have the money to outlay on a dish-washer and all the associated detergents and rinses and cleaners for the machine, enough crockery and cutlery to fill a machine for economical use and if you are going to be the stacker and un-stacker of the dish-washer. Your choice!!
A good dishwasher with high water temps is a beautiful thing. The man who invented dishwashers is on my hero list. Throw them in there girl. You don't even have to run it right away. When it gets full then run it while you are having fun doing something else. Good luck
Even though it takes longer, and it actually involves manual labor, I say hand washing. You can turn the hot water on as hot as it will go,and that'd be hot enough for the germs. They also make dish detergent with bleach alternative in it now too. You can see what you're missing and make sure there's no residue when you're washing them. Dish washers seem to miss a lot. Hope this helps.
washing by hands b/c you see if theres any food left on the plate and in the dishwasher you cant see and they dont wash as good as hands do
Best way to clean dishes is by hand. I have a dishwasher and I have tried it two times. I was unhappy with the results. Must use the primitive way, it works!
Dishwasher - the water used is hotter than can be used hand washing, and the soap is also stronger. This, plus the rinse in hot water with drying will disinfect dishes and get them cleaner and more sanitary than hand washing.
A dishwasher, because the length of washing time and the high temperature of the hot water kills the bacteria and viruses that are on the dishes.
Definitely washing by hand because dishwashers leave nasty stains and soap even. When you do it manually, you know exactly where to scrub and you don't have a bunch of food particles from plates or pots, touching glasses and cups and all. It's so much cleaner, safer and effective.
Both! Hand washing gets the food off better and dishwasher sanitizes better. (My sister-in-law first washes by hand and then puts them in the dishwasher to sanitize.)
