Yellowed clothes?

Question:I love my white clothes for summer, but some have yellowed sitting in my drawer, and some have yellowed from overbleaching. I have seen a few suggestions here..Vinegar and baking soda...I have both at home right now...which is better and do I use hot water? warm water? Help!

Answers:
Try using some "Washing Soda" made by Arm&Hammer. Not the soap but Washing soda. Whites will come out nice and bright and very soft to touch.Use in hot or warm just make sure you mix it in with the water.

OXYClean! They claims it will make your clothes the color they're supposed to be.
Today's clothing makers often apply a finish to white clothes to make them appear whiter. The problem with this is that bleach will often react with the "finish" on the clothing turning it yellow. If you have ever applied bleach or a bleach pen to white clothing only to have a large yellow mark where the stain once was, you'll understand.

It's especially tempting to try to bleach away a stain on white clothing or fabric. It's better not to bleach than it is to risk ruining your clothes or having a yellow stain that you can't remove on one of your favorite articles of clothing. What should you do if you have yellow stains from overbleaching on your white clothes? Here are some steps for handling yellowed whites:

To remove yellow bleach stains from overbleaching:
Bear in mind that some stains will not come out. If you have yellow stains on white clothes from overbleaching, try using RIT Color Remover.

To remove yellowing from white clothing:
Sometimes, white clothing will become yellowed with time and not from overbleaching. Once again, Rit comes to the rescue with Rit Color Brightener. This product is suitable for white fabrics that can be bleached. For white fabrics that cannot be bleached, use Rit White Wash to brighten white fabrics and remove yellowing.

To keep white clothing and fabrics looking good
The first step to keeping white clothes looking good is to remove the stains properly to begin with. Avoid the temptation to "spot treat" a stained white garment with bleach. Use OxiClean powder to treat stains because it doesn't interfere with most finishes on white fabric. But as always, be sure to test an inconspicious area first to be certain and before applying any spot or stain treater to your clothing. If the stain doesn't come out right away, then keep reapplying the OxiClean. I have yet to find a stain that won't yield to OxiClean.
warm to the touch but not hot water. baking soda will work well, but not mixed with vinegar. Vinegar will work well, but your house will smell like a salad.

I'd use 1 cup bakingsoda to every load of laundry.

When my clothes yellow, I use this stuff you get in the laundry aisle at the store called Mrs. Stewart's Blueing. It treats the water and completely removes yellow from over-laundering. It also revives faded jeans and your black clothes turn back to black when they have faded. Its safe for all colors and you can do other things with it too. Check it out:

The best way to wash your whites is this way, takes a bit longer than just throwing them in the machine but work´s. You need to buy some good old fashioned soap bar , soap. You can find this in your local hardware store. Soak your whites in cold water, remove and rub the soap in. Leaving the soap on and the clothes free from the water, say 1/2 hr or so. This lets the soap sink into the clothes. Now back to the cold water, give the stain´s a little rub, remove from the water. This time rub in the soap , leave the soap on and pop your whites into your machine on a 30ºc or 40ºc wash. Once done, hang your clothes outside in the sun, the sun will bleach out any remaining stain & bleach yoyur clothes whiter than white the natural way. Also if you have a nice patch of grass in your garden, lay some of your white clothes on top off the grass, every so often sprinkle cold water on them , this helps to remove stains, whilst the sun is doing it´s job. This is the old fashioned way off keeping your whites white, but it works
