If you can't get anything to work, you could have someone come in and patch the carpet with the same kind (they cut out one areas and seamlessly replace it with another new piece.) Also, you could try calling a carpet cleaning specialist to come and get it out. Or you could rent a cleaning machine (or is that what you meant?) Or you could tell your "friend" that it isn't very friendly to rag you about something that you can't necessarily help. What kind of friend has to make herself feel better by making you feel bad? If you get the carpet patched, keep the piece they remove and put it down like a rug where the dog likes to sleep. Move it a bit at a time every day until it is in a different area. If you move it a bit at a time the dog should continue to lie on it (it will smell like the place it likes) as you move it until you have the dog lying in an acceptable place on the piece of carpet that you have saved. (if you don't like the look of a piece of carpet just lying around, buy some coordinating fabric and edge it like a rug) Good Luck, and tell that friend that she is rude and inconsiderate.

why dont you try vinegar no animal likes the smell so they stay away.
Have you access to a steamer? I use mine on things like that and it works marvellously. They are environmentally friendly, and don't leave a soapy residue which attracts dirt and makes it look just as bad two weeks later.
Have you tried using some of your own hair shampoo, It work´s just as good . Once you have washed the carpet . Lay a towel with a heavy object on top, this will help soak up any water from the underside of the carpet. Leave to dry with natural air, You will find this area will need to be steam cleaned at a later date , as sooner or later the water mark always reaches the surface
Now matter how many times we bathed our Boo boy, he always left such stains both on the rug and the wall upon which he liked to lean. (RIP, old friend.) This worked for us. Make a paste of borax and water, agitate it into the stain until you no longer see it, allow it to dry and vacuum up the residue. Nature's Miracle (at the pet and discount stores) will also take it off as it is a natural enzyme that breaks down organic matter. But, borax was my quick fix if I didn't have the Miracle on hand. Neither will leave any residue in the carpet to attract dirt or dust and become a mystery stain latter.
I just cleaned the same stain off my beige carpet this weekend by renting a "Rug Doctor" carpet cleaning machine from the supermarket.

I did the whole house, but went over the bad areas 3 times, and it worked great. It looks like a new carpet.
try greased lightning you can get it at wal mart or the dollar store it cames in a spray bottle it worked for me

Is the temperature in your house ok? If the spot where the dog is sleeping is near a door or window where there is a slight draft coming through, he may be too warm and will try to find a place to sleep where there is a little bit of air flow. If this doesn't work, place his pet bed in the area at night so that he can actually sleep on the bed without having to leave his comfort area. There is also a spray that they offer specifically for pets. I can't remember what the name of it is (I just remember seeing a picture of a cat and a dog and it had a pink background and it said OFF! in all capital letters) You spray it in areas that you want pets to stay away from. It is odorless to humans, but there is a certain scent in it that makes animals want to stay away from it. As far as the stain goes, try Shout. Its made for clothing, but I use it on my carpet ALL the time because it is wonderful at getting oil out. I have used it to get buffalo sauce, even melted butter out of my carpet, and grape juice off of the seat of my car. Just spray the stain until it is pretty wet and let it soak overnight. The longer you let it set, the better it works. Then take hot water and an old washrag and scrub lightly.it should come right out! After cleaning would be the best time to spray with the OFF! spray so that the dog doesn't dirty it up again. You can get it at any large-chain pet store and they also sell it at wal-mart.
Awesome-available at dollar stores(has a degreasing agent in it). Has not left a residue on anything i have tries from carpet to clothing-make sure you dilute according to directions
try a bissel quick steamer and also try oxyclean

i hope this helps you!
Get some Carpet Cleaner Concentrate like VAX, mix as per directions, then add 20% ammonia. Wear gloves, open windows, scrub carpet with scrubbing brush, then rinse off with warm water and wet vac the carpet. NEVER EVER use 'ordinary' soaps/ detergents (like dishwash liquid or hair shampoos on carpets. They contain glycerine, which is why they are 'kind to your hands...' etc..(sing along now!). This creates a film in the carpet that attracts dirt.
