How Do I Wash My Comforter?
Question:So I have a faux suede goose down comforter...Can I put it in the washer with a bit of detergent, or without the detergent? Should I also put it in the dryer after or is it better to leave it out to dry by itself?
Answers:
Check the Comforter for a washing label. Might need dry cleaning.
Depending on the size you may have to go to a Laundromat to use a larger than normal machine. Might want to do this anyway. since comforters & sleeping bags get very heavy when they are wet. And take a toll on a normal wash machine.
Don't wash it. Goose down should be washed, not dry cleaned because dry cleaning will take out the oils and make the down brittle. The faux suede should be dry cleaned. Take it to a dry cleaner you trust and ask for their opinion. If they clean it for you, you may need to sign an agreement you won't make them responsible for damage. Good Luck! (I am a former dry clean operations manager, {did the job 3 years}). Another option is to open one seam in the comforter and take out the down. Then, after getting the suede cleaned, put the down back in and re-sew the seam. If the comforter doesn't have spots on it, just air it out outside for a couple of hours. (Make sure to put it in the shade.)
My goose down comforter was the favorite "potty spot" for my new puppy. I got sick and tired of paying $25.00 for dry cleaning every other day so I decided to give it a wash in cold water (delicate cycle) and let it air dry.
Needless to say, the comforter became forever flat and lost all of its fluff. Anyways, I purchased a synthetic down comforter that is washable, and fortunately my puppy has been completely house broken.
