How does the Downy fabric softner ball work? Just curious.?

Question:I am just curious how those Downy Fabric softner balls work. Sometimes mine opens and other times it does not.

Answers:
the spin cycle is supposed to cause them to open

I think it works great. Depends on your washer. I am pretty sure that the agitation of the soapy water spin-out is what gets
it to open up. I do occasionally have a failure to open. I like not having to watch for the rinse cycle. I have an automatic one that came on the washer, but it gets really nasty-after I got the Downy ball, I pitched the other thing.
I was having the same problem with mine, and i just broke down and spent the 1.50 at walmart and bought a new one. I do not have the problem anymore. I think the little plunger gets worn out after awhile, and does not work like it is suppose to.
