Answers:
There are many leather cleaners on the market. However, an old standby is saddle soap found in shoe and boot polish areas or horse equipment stores. If you don't want to do that, any mild soap will work however you use only the foam, not the liquid. Too much water on leather really dries it out. With a clean cloth or sponge apply the soap foam, rub and then take another clean cloth and wipe. That said, if just this once you use water and soap, OK, just don't saturate. Then the upper section you can hand wash, being careful not to saturate the leather below.
If you really love that backpack and want to keep it, look around for leather conditioners. They keep the leather soft...especially if one is washing their leather in water (wink)
if wash the whole thing it will get messed up! What is the lucky stuff? take it to a cleaner that specializes in leather and suede care
get a wet rag, or tissue and put water on it and thewipe the chocolate milk off
Don't wash leather. Get leather lotion and treat it.
