What is best way to clean the jets in a bathtub jacuzzi?
Question:
Answers:
When I worked at hotels as a housekeeper, we would fill the tub with water and a couple of cups of bleach and then run the jets for 5-10 minutes.
run some CLR through...then make sure to RINSE well...
There are products at stores that sell Whirlpool tubs which is a powder you pour 2-3 capfuls above the vacuum portion of running tub of water. After 5 minutes wipe sides while draining. Refill tub & run for another 5 minutes for rinsing.
You can also use powdered dish washer product and use with the same method of running & rinsing as above. I would not recommend CLR; you have the plastic tubing you are cleaning not metal pipes.
The stores recommend you do this every time you use the tub; we do it once a week or every 2 weeks depending on use. We never run the jets with anything with oil base (bubble bath although I have found a bath foam from Intensive Care that does not have oil in it) nor bar soap to leave soap scum in the jets. Occassionally, I remove the vacuum cover & clean with brush.
The powders I mentioned are safe for the tub & not damage the fiber glass tub nor the plastic tubes going to & from the vacuum & jets.
I put 5 gallons of vinegar in and fill the rest with water. Run the jets for about 30 minutes. You will see brown scum float to the top while it's working. Drain and clean up the scum. Fill again to rinse and run for about 15 minutes. I usually do 2 rinses, on the last rinse add 2 cups of bleach. run for 15 minutes.
I try to do that every six months.
Sometimes if it's really dirty with hard water deposits in the jets I screw them out and soak them in CLR individually.( I don't want the CLR in the inner workings of the tub because I don't want to take a bath in CLR.)
Not owning a jacuzzi, this is only a guess..I know for clogged shower heads and coffee makers, you just run white vinegar thru..but again, I don't know if you 'run' something thru a Jacuzzi or how it'd be cleaned!! but white vinegar is inexpensive, ecological, and does the job!
