Preventing Color Bleed?

Question:I recently bought a skirt directly from India. It is bright green, and I am worried about color fading and/or bleeding when I go to wash it... Any suggestions?
I just really love it, and I don't want to ruin it...
Also, it is all one color.

Thank you all very very much!

Answers:
Soak it in epsom salts prior to washing. It'll set the dye. Then wash in cold water by itself on gentle cycle.

i would wash it with woolite on the gentle cycle with cold water. and wash it by itself so that there won't be any other colors it could bleed onto.
Dyes found in clothing made in India are sometimes not stable. i work at a dry cleaners and have seen some bleed a lot! wash it in cold water and alone! it might bleed, but it shouldn't bleed so much that it fades. hang it to dry also. handwashing would not be a bad idea.
Hi

Wash it in Cold water and use about 1/4 cup vinegar...
I would do the tricks about prewashing to set the color, but then when I wash it from then on, I would put Shout color catcher in your wash when you do laundry. I haven't had anything ruined since I started using it. It is a sheet like a dryer sheet and it catches all the colors that would normally bleed onto other clothes. The best thing I ever found for laundry. I wash colors and darks and whites together now instead of doing three loads, and it saves everything. Nothing ruined! (just have to remember to put it in everytime!)
If you are so worried about bleeding or fading then wash it on a gentle cycle on a small load by itself with cold water. That way nothing else can damage the skirt.
follow the washing directions on the tag (if there is one) and you should have no problem. hang drying works great also.

until you are comfotable to wash it with other clothes.

Hope that helps.
Washing Colors Without Bleeding
To set colors in colored items, soak them for an hour in a mix of 1/2 cup vinegar, 1/2 tablespoon of salt, and 1/2 gallon of water. If the rinse water shows color after an hour, repeat the process. Use this technique only for single-colored items, because multi-colored items may bleed into each other. Multicolored items will likely need to be dry-cleaned.=)
