If it is a mirror you should be able to remove smudges or spatter by lightly scraping with the side of a razor blade. Be careful not to press too hard so as to scratch the mirror.
Try Goof Off. You can get it at places like Lowes, Home Depot, Wal-Mart in the paint sections. It's very good at even hard, try paint spots.
Do NOT use paint thinner, fingernail polish remover, etc. You will ruin the finish of any woodwork around the mirror.
