Question:I want my home to smell good but tired of spending 50 dollars a month on plug ins, sprays, febreeze, etc. I am a very clean person but have three children a dog (9lbs) and 2 hamsters. I like the smell of cedar which seems to be neutral. My home has three levels how can I make it consitantly smell good throughout

i think your doing your best
Have you seen those reed diffusers? I picked one of those up from Pier One and they're really nice. It's a bottle filled with a fragrant liquid and small reeds. The fragrance works its way up the reeds and out into the room. Occasionally you flip the reeds over so they can refill with liquid. They give off a light scent and are also quite pretty to look at. You could easily have one of these on each floor or your home. My fave is the "Citrus Cilantro" one and everyone that's come into my home has commented on how "fresh" my home smells - with my dog, three cats AND four ferrets! http://www.pier1.com/catalog/collections... FYI the diffuser I have I purchased in Mar and it's just now starting to run out - so it's lasted four months and cost me $8.00.
I think "smelling good" is in the nose of the sniffer. For me, smelling good is food smells, like apple pie, or vanilla, or cherry, or nothing at all.
If you are very clean, you really don't need to try to mask smells that aren't there. Perhaps you're obsessing a bit?
Just take a bath regularly, once or twice a day. For sure you will the difference! LOL!
I suggest you burn some Indian Jos-sticks or arabian incense...that's what I do...when anyone comes to my place...they say 'hmmm...what's that lovely smell!'...
I bought a eucalyptus wreath and the place smells awesome.
You can buy bunches at the craft store and make an arrangement in a pot or as a swag for each room.some people think it smells bad but I like the smell because it's pleasant and clean.
I also use whole spices (cloves, allspice, cinnamon sticks) in a pint jar and place on my coffee burner - let a cup of water run into the jar (like you're making a cup or pot of coffee) and the scent will release and make your house smell great! then all you have to do is place the same jar back on the burner for the next day.
they also make an organic cat litter that is pelleted and is recycleable to the garden and has a deodorizer in it and that could replace the cedar chips in the hamster cage - or, baking soda sprinkled under the chips and in your carpet when vacuuming is a natural environmentally safe deodoizer.also can be used as a cleanser.
