What is the best way to price items in a garage sale with lots of clothes and items?
Question:We have alot of clothes shoes and other items that need to be priced quickly for a garage sale, what is an easy way to price items.
Answers:
i use to price everything which too way 2 mch time ...now... i have learned a easier way than marking ea dot w/ a price & sticking it on the item. COLOR DOTS... MAKE up several boards big enuff that the customers can see it. Then designate which color dot will = what price. So for RED dots... (paint a red dot) will = $1.00 GREEN dots will = $3.00 (paint a green dot) so forth & so on... the little things... put in a big & mark on the OUTSIDE of the bx..EVERYTHING IN THIS BOX.. = ? 25c or 50c..etc... HOW bad do u want to get rid of things? Don't short u'r self but if u c someone looking & looking & kinda pondering over something... walk up to them.. & state " I'll take best offer".. that would perk them to say what they would like to pay & u can counter back til u come 2 a price.
Then after u have designated what dots r -= what color for price... the start putting that color dots on stuff. Most of the time on clothes, if u lay them out... like all the jeans together folded fairly nice coming down like a deck of fanned cards... or shoes lined up... or dresses/coats/etc on hangers on a clothesline... ppl. will have a tendency to purchase more. U do get those DIE HARD DIGGERS but in general have it out & u'll sell them better. &&& if u keep the price fairly low. then they will purchase more. OR u can bargain ...like they total $7.50... u can keep it at that or round it down. PPL always like a bargain & ppl will ask ..will u take $7.00 so b ready.. how bad do u want them around.
Keep everything u can on turned over boxes or tables or where ever ppl CAN c them ... little things in boxes.. put up on tables so ppl can dig thru them. This is all from experience & selling items in swap meets.
i hope that helped u some have fun~
well price the stuff you really dont care about pretty cheap but sumtin you wont some money from dont price and make the customer ask so will no wat there willing to pay for that item.
I priced all of my daughter's jeans for ten bucks, they were designer jeans that she had never worn because of fit..they went in the first half hour...
I wish I had charged more, but instead, I dug out some more clothes, (my son's) that he had never worn before....they went the next hour...I charged 50$ for all of them..
I never knew how much I should sell them for, I wish I had charged like twenty bucks each for the jeans, but oh well.I sold everything I wanted to , even the washer dryer set and old couch.. :-)
Clothes are not worth any money unless they are in perfect or almost perfect shape, or leather upper classy clothes and shoes. It's hard to tell, so if they are junk clothes, let them slide for pennies on the dollar, and you will be able to tell what is popular by people asking. Leather goods in good shape use your own judgement, and clothes that do not sell, take them to the Goodwill or Salvation Army and get a reciept, then claim it on you taxes.
I always figure what a thrift shop would charge and then I charge 50% less. I know that really cuts down your profit, but you really want to sell the stuff like shoes, clothes etc. If you have a nice item that isn't clothes, I would ask 50 to 65% of what you paid for it if it is in good condition. The same goes for a tool or something that may be in demand, otherwise price to sell. If you have anything left, try logging on Freecycle.org and then click on your state and find your city. Free advertising, you charge nothing but you choose who comes and get it depending on why they want it. A wonderful way to recycle for some people who really needs things. Gives you achance to feel good about something you have done. Good luck on your sale, put up many signs and rememeber to take them down again.
$1.00
or 2.00
depends on wat and the condition
As a shopper, I like to see things in groups, like "all tops $1.00" or "all books $.50."
Clothes are usually the last things to go at sales, especially shoes.
And as stated above, if they don't sell, you can donate them and take a much higher value as a tax deduction.
i just had a garage sale and it worked out well to put for example- all of the baby clothes on a table that was marked $1 each. if there are special items that u want to mark at a higher price set those to the side and they can be marked seperately. clothes don't seem to move very well at garage sales, so mark them cheap. good luck!
An easy way? Just think about what you want for the item. Double or triple the price and let them talk you down to what you want. You're happy and they are happy. It's easy. It's the American way.
First divide the articles in in section , excellent or near excellent condition, good condition and wearable. Have one price for each section and those articles that deserves an individual price, place to the side with the prices on it.
You can buy colored sticker dots from the newsagency that are good for writing prices or simply have big boxes with a big bright yellow posterboard sign - 25c for anything in this box (people LOVE digging and finding a treasure!!) - you can hang clothing on a rope or pole on hangers and put a sign - all clothing $2 (unless otherwise marked) as you may have some nice designer shoes or items you want a little more for. Use a big foldable trestle table and make a bright posterboard sign - "all table items only $2" you can always put anything you want to sell for more with a sticker on it. Otherwise if you have a ton of books or clothes it will take far too long to price everything. People want to grab a heap of bargains. I have shared garage sales with others too so we could have a lot more items and make it look more impressive to shoppers. Each family had their own color sticky dots with prices to work out who earned what. Make sure you put an ad in the paper and have some spare change in a lockable box and lots of extra plastic bags for your shoppers. We even have a big roll of flag "bunting" that we hang around the sale area. Garage sales can be fun and you have a big clean up too! I have made up to $2,000 in one day having a sale (we made cakes with jelly and cream for sale and home made cookies)
