What's better? (Consumer Question)?

Question:In theory, which would be a better buy:

a set of 600 thread count Egyptian Cotton Sheets ($100)
- OR -
a st of 1000 thread count Sateen Cotton Sheets ($100)

?

Thanks

Answers:
Doc, I have both. The Sateen sheets are much more comfortable to my skin.

Don't get me wrong, the Egyptian sheets feels great, but they feel slightly inferior to the sateen.

I get my sheets from Overstock for that price.

number of stitches per sq in, 1000 is tighter than 600
Sateen feels better. So, I would choose what feels best against my skin. If you can get 1000 thread count for $100, that's an excellent bargain.
1000
Please share, where did you find these bargains?
V. Interested.

Thanks.

1000 is a tighter weave and stiffer. I found some "Beech" sheets at Bed, Bath & Beyond that feel like sateen and are actually silkier than the 600s I was using, and they were under $100 for the set (with the coupon, of course).

I guess I wouldn't buy either unless I could feel them first. You just never know, and at that price a lot could depend on the manufacturer.
Martha Stewart says to beware of sheets that claim to be obscenely high in thread count. She says there is some way (can't remember specifics) that the manufacturer gets around labeling the item with the "actual" sheet count.. and the end result is not a higher quality sheet. I would choose the 600 count based on what I learned from her.
