Gah! what is with these filthy people?

Question:I belong to my local Freecycle group and have gotten rid of, and received, many great quality items. I do realise that you get what you pay for (i.e. don't expect much when it's free) but I am pretty disgusted and a bit baffled by what I picked up today.

A lady offered 2 full-sized duvets, which I could really make use of. She made it seem as though they were still in fine condition.
I picked them up today--and oh my god. She hands me them in a bag, says they've been sealed in the bag for the last 6 months and I said "that's ok--I'll put them through a good wash," she says they're dry-clean only and airing them out would make them fresh again. I get home--SO disgusting. reeked of body soil, blood stains, musty (her home was filthy too). pre-soaked them in bleach etc. but gave up and tossed.

le Q (finally): HOW can people live in such filthy, cluttered homes and think it's ok to offer manky, DISGUSTING, unsalvagable goods, yet act like they're doing a favour b/c free?

Answers:
That is so gross! I dropped off some baby and kids' clothing ate the shelter last year and the lady couldn't get over how clean and neatly folded it was. She said she had just gone through a bag of donations and found a bunch of dirty laundry- including some girls skid-marked underoos. OMG...if it's too much to ask to have respect for the people you are so "generously" giving things to, at least have enough respect for yourself than to send it off filthy and germy! - and that's how I feel about that! :)

she told you they were in the bag for six months - maybe she didn't realize they were dirty.
igorne them
maybe they dont stay home often... they dont have time to clean...but i agree.. its gross ... i need my home clean...i cant rest at night knowing there are dishes in the sink, or a spill on the floor...

but she probably didnt realize they were THAT gross... ya know?
you forget in 6 months time
they might have been from someone else and she was regifting them
just leave it ,throw it away or something if u want one really bad just buy a new one it won't have blood stains or anything like that. besides not everyone can stay clean trust me.
SOME PPL JUST DONT CARE IF THE LIVE IN FILTH, THEY DONT REA LISE YOU GET DISEASES, BUGS , AND INFECTIONS FROM FILTH, SAD!!
Some people have their lives in the state of chaos, and feel like trash, so they live like trash. I am sure she knew what they were like, but it is normal for her, so she thinks it is normal to everyone. I would of been embarassed to give away anything like that, but then some of us are normal :)
i totally agree they think just because they are free they do not care what condition the items are in she should have looked over the item first.i would have been so embarrassed to give something like that away. take it with a grain of salt
not everyone has high standards.just say thank you and be on your merry way (to the dumpster lol).put her on your NO RECEIVE LIST. for future times
