Does anyone use vinegar to clean anymore?
Question:My grandmother swears by vinegar. With all the cleaning products on the market I was curious to know how many people still use vinegar remedies and if so, please share your vinegar secrets!
Answers:
I use vinegar to clean my house. Vinegar is wonderful on windows...it leaves them streak-free (dry with your old crumpled newspaper instead of wasting paper towels). It's also really effective when combined with baking soda, I use this to clean my toilet bowl and counter tops. Vinegar can also be used to flush out that "old grimey coffee" smell and flavor from your often-used coffee pot. It is MUCH cheaper to buy a bottle of vinegar than a bottle of some cleanser, seeing as vinegar needs no special tv advertisements or special bottle to catch the consumer's eye. It's also great for the environment because anything you rinse out into a drain (i.e. rag or sponge) or flush will not harm the environment, which is always a good thing. Those other cleaners, such as Windex or toilet bowl cleaners are just terrible for the environment!
Vinegar is also good to use in your laundry...it gets stubborn smells like cigarette smoke out...and it leaves your clothes smelling crisp and clean. It's just an all around great product...I don't know why more people don't use it!
A lot of people do. There are lots of ideas online, more than FindHomeAnswers users will be able to list. :-)
I just keep a bar of Fels Naptha & a bar of Octagon along with Borax, Vinegar, Baking Soda, OxyClean, Biz, and Hydrogen Peroxide
Anything and I do mean ANYTHING... including dishes & laundry can be cleaned by owning only these items
Every once in a while I will also get a small bottel of amonia if something is really greasy (like the grill) and needs a seasonal cleaning
As people become more and more aware of the health problems associated with a chemical-filled life, the use of natural cleaners like lemon juice and vinegar are becoming more popular. I'm sure more people clean with vinegar today that they did 10 years ago.
Yes..I still use vinegar. But not all the time because it stinks. But I recently used it to clean my car windows. It's been awhile since I cleaned my car and after washing it there were hard water spots that wouldn't go away; even after the washing. I used vinegar to wipe it off and it worked.
Bless your grandmother for passing on one of our best used secerts for cleaning.
I use vinegar for almost anything from removing stains to drain cleaner (first bicard) then some vinegar. But stand back it foams and cleans out blocked drains.
For odors, place a small bowl in the room and like magic the smell vanishes.

My favorite thing to do with vinegar is cleaning out my drains.
I pour a 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain then add some vinegar. It really helps to keep them clean and smell free.
Plus, the chemical reaction is kinda fun!
I still use it quite often. I use it on dishes if they start to smell, I use it on mirrors and glass, and I use it on pretty much anything that is stinky. It also makes a great toilet bowl cleaner. It's also great for removing stains on metal if you mix it with flour.
