Why does my Frigidaire Gallery Series front load washer smells like a swamp?
Question:I've tried drying the water out of the door gasket when finished, leaving the door open, leaving the door closed and washed using bleach. The only thing that has even the slightest effect is using OdoBan odor eliminator along with the detergent, or spraying some OdoBan inside the drum when finished. Even then, all it only tones down the stink, it never really goes away. The washer might sit idle for two or three, sometimes as many as four or five days, does it need to be run more often to keep the remaining water that sits in there from stagnating? Does anyone else have this issue?
Answers:
check the rubber gasket between the door and tub for articles of clothing that have been trapped under the gasket; you may find an old rotting sock that smells like a dead rat!
the same reason your kitchen sponge/rag gets funky..old dried soap residue. Add a little humidity and presto!
Try using a lemon juice solution or run with only bleach water inside for a cycle. I am suprised the OdoBan didn't work-
There shouldn't be water left sitting in the machine, check to see if it's level, the drain may not be working properly. Check with the manufacturer, good luck
Start saving your pennies! Since my matching dryer died last week I learned from the repair guy that the average life on these units is only 5 years! Good luck, mine stinks too! Try lemon juice... because it sure is a lemon!!
What is happening is water is being left in the main tub container. That tub is what encloses the visible inside of your machine, the drum.
You will need to remove the top of the machine. There are about 10 or so hex screws to do that. In the bottom of that tub you will surely see water.
My guess is that the discharge intake is resting above the bottom and it can only drain maybe 98% of the water. You can take a pocket knive and cut that intake hose flush with the bottom of the tub.
Make sure nothing has fallen into that hose while you are at it and it is clear and clean down to the discharge pump itself.
Also check that discharge hose and make sure no kinds are in that hose that might pinch off the flow rate.
The amount of time this discharge pump is on is based on a timing circuit. so any pinching of the hose or restriction in water flow will cause water to remain in the tub also.
As a last resort the timer or pump might be the problem
Take a small bottle of vinegar ,fill your washer with water pour in v. do empty load. You know if you put a half cup of vinegar every time you wash it takes out smells in your clothes and keeps your washer smelling clean. Hope this helps
This is a common problem with front load washers. You should make sure the door is left open after you finish each wash cycle.
If there is water that remains in tub or door sill, there could be something wrong with your washer. If not, make sure you dry the water out after you're done using the machine. Don't let it sit in there
If I were you I'd try putting backing soda in it and running that throught it. If that didn't help I'd go to sears of JCpennys and aske them what to do.
