That's funny. Just this morning I put five pairs in and five and a half came out, one of them coloured pink with green spots. Do you really wear socks with that design? tsk tsk.

The sock fairies have been at work again...lol!
the washin machine gremlins have eaten it...I have them in my machine..
Did you overload the machine - it could have caused the sock to go somewhere it shouldn't - I think my sister did this once.
Maybe they have ran off with mine.
maybe the machine 'socked' it in.hehehe.just kidding.:D.check again.:D
Is there such a thing as half a pair?

but hey I know what you mean I now have a drawer for sad single socks - awiating the return of long lost partners
my washing machine eats socks 2
the odd sock monster got it sadld it attack'd my favourite pair i only have one left
Check inside other clothes that you put in with your socks. I know it has happened to me on numourous occasions. The other possiblity is that you dropped when taking them out, or in possibly caring them somewhere. Lastly, maybe they are still in the washing machine. Retrace your steps, look everywhere, I am sure you will find it. GOOD LUCK!
Its a conspiracy my Friend!I always happens and it happens to everyone!
It's probably electrostatically attached to whatever else was in the machine with the socks. You'll never find it which is why I buy oodles of pairs of the same type of black socks. Always get a pair (and maybe the odd spare) that way.
check the sleeves of your shirts or pant legs. it may be hiding in there!!! ;)
If you read New Scientist, and this winters competition, you will have seen the answer:

An alien community from far, far away were able to follow the white hole back to the earth. And they could report back to their planet that they had discovered the source of all the socks that mysetriously keep popping up in their washing machines.
sock Munster got it
They hide out under the spinner, and when the get nice and slimy they head for the pump via the drain hose, carefully push the spinner to one side and look down under it (you may need a torch). When looking for one, you usually find two or three!

that happens to me, you have been visited by the mischievous sock imp.

how to catch him and therefore get your sock back, right, they are tricky little blighters, but you need to put a sock (or a pair may be more of a lure for him) into the washing machine but leave the door open, put something sticky on the floor by the machine, (up to you but i recommend tar, or failing that some pva glue may work) now go and hide round the corner.

when he comes for the sock he will get trapped in the sticky stuff, then do with him what you will!
happy hunting
I am sorry to inform you that you sock is deceased. Some washing machines have a habit eating socks, they sneak in and grab them down the side. Your sock will have been hung drawn and quartered before being laid to rest. You should get a specialist in to mediate with the said machine, as the behaviour is very self destructive and will eventually land you with a hefty bill for its own medical attention.
I know what you mean.

I have my own theory and that is one of three:-

1. Washing machines has been fabricated to eat or destroy the socks;
2. They go toe "sock heaven" where one day you will have to go and for the first 200000 years try and locate your missing sock;
3. If you have a "maid" working for you, the take the one with the idea that you will eventually give the other one also to them and wall they have two.
So you decide in the meantime bath with both socks on your feet and you might have them longer.
Look under the agitator.
Everyone has lost A sock but you may be the one and only to have lost a half sock!
All missing socks turn into wire coat hangers. Go look in your closet - it's in there.
Alternatively, it will be found one day. You will open a cupboard and all the missing socks, pens, flashlights, keys, pairs of glasses, and change will fall out right on top of you.
Some personal solutions as this happens to me, particularly at the laundrette.
1.Tuck one sock into the top of its pair to form a more bulky duo. This help to stop them vanishing out of sight in the spin cycle.
2 Alternatively get one of those mesh laundry bags which you can close up with all the socks inside.
Since I used method 1, i have not lost any, so it seems to work.
its them sock monsters they are such lil thefts. I did the same with my twins socks I put in 7 pairs and now I have 3 without matches
Did your washing machine sock it to ya? LOL!

It's probably underneath the agitator
Hey oop lad that's not bad. Everyone looses half a pair of socks now and again. Start worrying when you loose half a pair of underpants.
