Try to touch things only once, deal with that item and finalize it.
Get a spindle for receipts and keep it on a kitchen counter. After shopping if some item is wrong/bad you know exactly where to find the receipt. Also, they don't fall out of envelopes and make a mess.
Every season go thru your things and decided what can go to charity, bag it up and get it there.
File daily, even if it only takes 3 minutes.
Throw out magazines that are more than a month old.
If you are better able to set aside short portions of time, say 15 min. here & there to declutter that's just fine. No reason to wait it out and then try to do it all in one day. Keep up with it daily.
Make your bed each morning, it makes a big difference.
Always do dishes at least once a day.
Go thru each area of each room looking at what is there. Does a nail polish bottle really belong on the bookcase in your living room? If not - put it in a designated area. It's amazing how things end up all over the house. Look at your various zones and do that 15 min. at a time and it really helps.
Markers and pens can go in a large zippered pencil case or just keep a few by the phone in a pencil cup.

The best way to keep a home tidy is to get rid of clutter. With less "junk" the home looks larger and is easier to clean. Always remember to have a place for everything and if you get it out always put it back in its place. Sometime easier said than done but practice makes perfect!

I never keep things that I won't use or that I have doubles of. If I haven't used it in a week to two weeks then it is gone. I love going threw my house throwing things out that I won't use. I hate clutter. I'm a stay at home mom and I clean every day because I have kids. I use storage boxes in all the room and even in the kids rooms. I use the stroage space bags also and they are wonderfull. When my kids arn't home I go into there rooms and clean it of all the clutter. So they know to keep there rooms clean or I'll do it myslef.
