How to get the musty smell out of clothes?
Question:I left my waterbed sheets with a waterbed I dismantled and forgot about it...Now my expensive sheets smell moldy...Help!!
Answers:
You need to kill the mold, not just cover the smell, which is all fabric softener will do. Vinegar will kill the mold which is causing the smell. Wash and add 1 cup vinegar to the wash. The smell of the vinegar will dissipate when the sheets dry. Vinegar also is a great deodorizer.
Washing Machine
I think that if you wash them with detergent, and a cup full of vinegar it should take the smell out. Hope that helps you!
Rewash with a good detergent, fabric softener too. vinegar also may help remove odors. Febreeze does the job too.
If you have your own washer: soak in lysol (small brown bottle)
for no less than 1 to 2 hours. Fill the washer, put in the lysol,
mix it up a bit then put in the sheets. Let set, then finish the cycle. Restart the washer, let it fill, add tide or your favorite detergent when the agitation begins, and finish the wash as usual. (If you use a laundry mat- soak sheets in a prepared bucket of water and lysol, press top of the sheets when dumping the bucket, and take the bucket with you to wash the sheets.)
wash your cloths with tide and add 1/2 cup baking soda you can buy a large box if baking soda in the soap section of your store......it will say laundry baking soda.
