BBQ Grill Cleaning.?
Question:We hae just had our first BBQ of the year. Now the grill is a mess, is there an easy way of cleaning it or is it just a case of hot soapy water+wire brush+rubber gloves+elbow grease?
Any ideas guys?

Make a paste with some Oxyclean or some other named oxygen powder cleaner.
Give the grill a quick clean over getting rid of the loose stuff, and wetting the surface, then use a sponge pad with an abrasive side, and coat the grill with the paste. Leave to sit for a while, then wet the sponge, and use a bit of elbow grease, and you should find most of it will just drop off. The oxygen that the cleaner uses to clean the laundry, will help lift the dirt. I use Oxyclean for all sorts of cleaning! If you have a pan with a burnt interior, or a glass dish that has burnt on the edges, use a scoop of the cleaner, put enough boiling hot water to cover the burnt area, and leave to soak... will come off like magic!
Lol... and no I don't work for them!
I use a concentrated cleaning liquid, (the fairy stuff is quite good) and just leave the grill to soak.
Then rinse with boiling water and most of it come off.
I should of said not fairy washing up liquid (they sell a specific cleaner for that type of cleaning)
Spray it with oven cleaner. It will help shift the dirt.
It will burn off the next time you light the BBQ, or yes its soapy water and elbow grease. You can buy a brush that will take off the burnt on food, it a short haired brush with tough hair, I take mine off and put them in the dishwasher, but i still take off the worse food with soapy water first.
We just purchased a new grill and plan to keep it clean. We got the Simple Green BBQ grill cleaner (Home Depot) and it works great.
spray with distilled vinegar wait 30 min wipe off. if you spray the grill down as soon as your done cooking it makes clean-up a whole lot easier. also spray with non-stick cooking oil before each use .
use easy off spray. spray in on the grill and let it set on there for a while then wash it off. it will clean it like new.
Great for oven shelves as well!. Get a plastic underbed storage drawer from Homebase/Focus/B&Q, 3/4 fill with water, add pot of caustic soda, put your messy bits in, leave overnight, wash off in morning.
The best thing that I have found is Simple Green BBQ Grill and Microwave Cleaner. It's a black can. I found it at Ace hardware. But it is hard to find. I love it. I think it works great.
Try oven cleaner
We never scrub our BBQ pit.We heat it up and let the racks get really hot. Then slice an onion and take the butt of the onion and put it on the end of a fork and rub up and down the racks .It will clean off all build up and leave a onion flavor, then toss the onion in the coals for more flavor...
