Since, I'm so tiny I can't reach my window I ask someone to clean it for me and he does it once a month.
Throughly, about every six months. It totally sucks when they look worse after you do them!! I spot clean most of them, wash away handprints and kids stickiness!! That has to be the worst house chore ever!
Basically 2-4 times a year, upstairs and as needed downstairs.

living in Michigan with the long winters makes it a bit difficult to do it when it's freezing outside. But fold in windows allows me to to do it if it's really needed.

It REALLY depends on the dust situation. Everyones window should be cleaned at different times.. Some people wash theres every two weeks and some people every few months and some people twice or only once a year. You should clean the windows when they look like they need it. If you have pets, kids and or a lot of dust this will probably mean more often for you. It is a good idea to clean windows properly and properly is every two weeks allthough a lot of people do not. People that have maids usually have them to do it every two weeks.

It seems that I wash mine just before each rain and wind storm.
The main windows I will wash 5 or 6 times each year . on the outside. My front door, living room and kitchen windows are washed about once a month. I have a dog who just loves to leave her nose marks on the front windows, and the kitchen window tends to get a lot of splash spots.
GOOD OLD SOAP AND WATER WITH A LITTLE BLEACH WILL DO IT , AND WITH NO STREAKS, ALSO WIPE OR SHINE DRY WITH A FLOUR SACK TYPE DISH TOWEL , NO LINT CLOTHES.. OR USE NEWSPAPER..
We live in a dusty area, so once a week.

Only about once a year. I live on the second floor of an apartment complex and i have no way of cleaning the outside of the windows so even when i clean them, i can only clean the inside and you cant even tell i have cleaned them so i only bother with it when i am doing spring cleaning.
I usuall do it twice a year. Unless I get mad at some one and need some thing to clean.
