Cleaning a hardwood floor?
Question:I have a new light maple hardwood floor with a v- grooves, through out the kitchen and living room, I sweep and swiffer regularly, and have been using swiffer wet jet hardwood floor cleaner, it seems to clean the surface(ok but not as good as I would like.)but the dirt and grime gets caught in the v-groove, and now the floor looks dirty all the time, I'm going to get on my hands and knees and clean out the grooves with a brush(unless there is a better way) but, is there a product that can put a finish or seal on the floor to make cleaning the v-grooves easier for next time??
Answers:
If you are talking about prefinished v-groove I had the same thing. It's a PAIN to clean. I used to get down on my hands and knees and clean them (UGH). You have to be very careful.a prefinished floor is not sealed and water will get inside the grooves and it can result in damage. Never leave your floor wet after moping always dry it off with a towel. DO NOT use a brush to clean out the grooves...do it with a soft cloth a brush can damage too.
What we did was invest $1000 and had the floors sanded down and resealed with poly.now its so much easier. I can use any kind of mop and not have to worry.
swiffer wet jet
Murphy's Oil Soap works soooooo swell. I love it! You don't need to rinse it off either.
Urethane will seal it well, but it is a plastic finish.
It will be easiest future clean up.
Ventilate well when drying.
You will never have dirt in it. Do not use oil soap or a citrus cleaner if you are going to finish it - the finish won't bond. If you want a more natural finish, paste wax, but it is more slippery.
Have a wet-dry vac handy to suck the dirt from the grooves.
I too have the same delimma. My solution. Take a vacume cleaner hose, with a brush on the end to clean in between slats. It sucks the dirt out that get pushed in there when you sweep. The best way to shine, sorry, it is hands and kness. I have tried everything. It is the best way.
