What is the best way to get stains out of clothing other than drycleaning ?

Question:Whenever I use Shout it turns out all wrong !

Answers:
I prefer ZOUT over any other pre-spotter after reading a couple of Linda Cobb's Books. The red bottle guarantees the removal of most stains listed on the back and it really does work. I also like the BIZ activated non-chlorine bleach she recommends in that it is stain activated and works on even set in stains. I have oxyclean, but often find it doesn't dissolve well because I launder mostly in cold water and it leaves white powdery marks on dark clothing.

I have a 4 year old the loves the dirt so I am always having to get stains out and I simply use a little spray 'n wash and rub it on the spots and then what I do next is set the washer on warm and soak cycle and add some Oxyclean to the water and let is do it's thing and 98.9% of the time the clothes come out great.
I swear, I'm not being a cynical smarta--,
but, for the price of drycleaning,
why not just give 'em away
and buy new?

Right?
Crazy as it sounds. When you spill something on you, grab some hand sanitizer. The clear kind of course. Just dab a bit on and rub it in and the spot comes right out.
It depends on the material and what caused the stain. I do use the spray on stain removers but most of the time, just a dab of dish liquid. what better to take out stains or remove grease.
