What setting to iron graduation gown on?

Question:My son's graduation gown is 100% polyester. It has creases in it from being in the package. My iron has only acrylic, silk, rayon, wool, cotton and linen settings, higher heat in that order. I know I surely wouldn't go past rayon, but I placed it on the lowest setting of acrylic and it didn't even phase the wrinkles. I don't want to melt it.

Here's a trick I use when I have wrinkled clothing that can't be ironed...I hang the garment in the bathroom close to the shower in an area that won't get wet, then I turn the shower on as hot as it will go. Then I leave the bathroom making sure the door is shut. The steam that the hot water creates always loosens the wrinkles from my clothing...you should try it!

an ideal setting would be a laundry room, laying the gown atop an ironing board.
I wouldn't iron it. Just hang it up in a place where it gets moisture, like the bathroom for instance. The wrinkles will come out after a few days. If you don't have that much time try using steam only. The iron would burn the material, so try not to touch the gown. Good luck and congratulations to your son.
You could try downy wrinkle spray. It works really well. Just spary it and let it hang overnite. The off brand works too.
Here is a trick for getting wrinkles out of 100% poly without damaging the fiber. Spritz the wrinkle with water in a squirt bottle. Hang the garment up so that you can access both sides. Use the steam setting on the iron and use the steam burst function holding the iron 6-8 inches from the garment, never touching the iron to the fabric. I can set my iron to the acrylic heat setting and still get the steam bursts. Your other option is to use Downey wrinkle release which you can buy at the discounters and grocery in the laundry aisle.
I would iron it. Just set the iron on the lowest setting that still steams. Turn the garmet inside out or you'll let marks. Try a little corner first to make sure.but it should be fine. I Ironed my daughters.
