Depending on the material you could use 'febreeze' onit. Get's rid of most smells.
But check on the insructions to whether it would be safe to use on your sofa.
Spray Febreze brand upholstery spray directly on the fabric.
If you dampen it with some well diluted vinegar and before it dries out shake some bicarbonate of soda on it and leave it then hoover it off it should work if you want you can also put a bit of lavender oil in with the bicarb only a little as you still want the bicarb to be powder not soggy, good luck.

I can suggest this. You can use a small amount of the sterilizing solution you use for cleaning your baby´s drinking bottles
Give it a light wash with washing up liquid and warm water, wipe it down then go for the old method which works every time, without getting rid of your sofa or going to extreme and save yourself a fortune !
Then just get a few lemons and squeeze them into a pint of warm water. Get a spray bottle, fill it up and spray the sofa. Its a natural antiseptic and a natural freshener, i use it regularly on all sorts like my carpet, does a grand job, sparkling up my crockery instead of bleaching them or lovely for my knives, forks and spoons, comes up lovely every time :-) , even my brass and funnily enough my bedding and curtains ! lovely and fresh and clean.
