What are the best washer/dryer sets for quality, price and kwph?

Question:I want a big capacity set but not the huge ones. I haven't needed to shop for these in a long time.

Answers:
The new front loader ones break down allot. Just go for large capacity cheep washer and dryer from home depot or such like. After having nothing but trouble from expensive front loader have now gone for no frills cheep top loader and I love it and dryer. ( If you go to Sears Clearance you will see lots of refurbished front loader washers and dryers as they have been returned not working and fixed to sell. That is a big clue that they are crap}

I would recommend Consumer Reports--you can get a one month online subscription for 5 bucks or the lady at the info desk at the library will look it up for you. We bought a Frigidaire front loading w/ d two years ago and it was mainly based on their recommendations. They will tell you about energy usage, price, repair records, noise levels, capacity, etc.

The other thing is that you have to decide what's important to you. For efficiency and conservation, front loaders are the way to go,but they're expensive up front (you save on energy bills in the long run). Then there are design and space considerations. One reason I bought the front loaders is that I like to fold as I take things out of the dryer and the front loaders allow me to stack all of my folded stuff on top of both machines. If you have space issues and don't need a lot of capacity, maybe a stackable would work for you. That's when they have the dryer on top of the washer, so it fits in a closet...

One thing they don't tell you is that while the new washers have been redesigned and hold a lot more stuff, dryer design hasn't changed in 40 years. So, I can wash 16 pairs of jeans at once, but I can still only dry 5 of them. This is pretty inconvenient and negates any time I save by washing fewer loads. I have to dry everything in batches!
Kenmore, whirlpool not necessarily in that order.
