Is it possible to machine wash "dry clean only" linen?

Question:Yesterday I wore a dress that was a linen/rayon blend with polyester lining. I was at my daughter's birthday party, outside, so even though I didn't get any dirt or stains on the dress, I'd like to have it cleaned. I'm doing a whole lot of laundry today, and I know that sometimes "dry clean only" doesn't really mean it. There are some things I've washed in cold water on the gentle cycle and have air dried that come out fine, and then I've had things shrink on me, too.

Since I really don't want to ruin this dress... has anyone had experience with machine washing something like this? If so, how did it work out for you?

Answers:
I wouldn't chance washing it since it has a lining...my experience has always been that if an item has a lining, something is bound to shrink.and it's usually the outer dress and the lining is left dangling down past the hemline. It shouldn't be too expensive to have it professionally dry cleaned. Don't risk ruining your dress.

The linen may shrink. Just hang it up and let it air out. Then wear it and then, to the dry cleaners.
well you know i guess you dont have to dry clean in the washer but you could hand wash it cause linen is a very valuble piece of clothing so hand wash it.
