How to remove rosin build up on my violin?
Question:i can't try any thing strong cause it may harm the varnish. what should i use to get rid of it?
Answers:
If it's not an expensive instruent (in other words, it's less than $1,000US), then you can use a cleaner called Fiddlebrite, available here:
http://www.elderly.com/also/accessories/...
This can be used on the strings and the wood and the fingerboard, and works beautifully. This product is not reliable with expensive instruments which have a French polish. If you have a more expensive instrument, SHAR music has little bottles of cleaner and polish you can use.
Never use any household product on a stringed instrument, which product is not specifically designed for stringed instruments.
They make special polish/cleaner that you can purchase an a music supply shop. In the future, don't let it build up like that. I used to keep a cloth diaper in my cello case to wipe it down when I played.
You can use a tiny amount of rubbing alcohol on the strings if you have a problem there as well to remove build up but don't let it hit the wood.
