What is the best way to iron button down shirts?
Question:I live in Germany-so there is no spray starch available, and I hate ironing because I am so bad at it. I will iron a shirt, go to hang it up, and there will still be wrinkles!
Answers:
Unbutton your collar, iron the back side first then the front, iron the yolk across the back,
iron the back, match the shoulder seam on the arms, iron from top to bottom, turn and do the other side, iron the front from top to bottom. Use a light spray of water while you iron. Do not use hair spray, your iron will be a mess. If you are using a steam iron then only use the mist if you iron in a bad wrinkle. source, old one that did this for years prior to clothes dryers.
a spritz of hairspray - not much
iron buttons from the other side
keep material taught
after ironing a section, let set before moving to next section
the best way to iron your shirt is inside out hope this helps
use an ironing board. always let the shirt cool before moving it.!
Order some starch online or something and have it shipped to you (in bulk maybe).
I'm wondering if corn starch in a spray bottle might help, mixed with water, course.
send them to the cleaners or rip them out of the dryer immediately after they dry or just before
Is the shirt permanent press? then you should not have to iron it!!!! If it's not, then iron the shirt, collar unbuttoned, of course, and when you are through, button the buttons and hang it up!! OH and you can also try not drying the shirt for entire cycle; let it dry for 5 minutes, take it out, if still too damp, 5 (or less) more minutes; this will help with the wrinkles and you may not need to iron it...(if it's not permanent press!)
