make a layer of tin foil in a dish, fill with water, lay your silver in, sprinkle with baking soda, put another layer of tin foil on top
I know a lady that used to cater weddings, and she cleaned her silver with toothpaste..Crest to be exact. Give that a try..best of luck to you.
I use 3M Stainless Steel cleaner and polisher. It is a spray can. Made in Australia. I expect you can get a similar product where you live. Also there was a product called 'Silvo" which was the best. Good Luck!
lemon juice will clean silver
You can make a paste with tomato ketchup and salt. The acid in the tomato and the salt react and make a great polish on the silver, just scrub and rinse.
toothpaste--it cleans great, Especially gold and silver, silver plated items.
oh my..Please do not use toothpaste to clean your silverplate OR sterling for that matter. Toothpaste is abrasive and will permanently scratch the finish on your silverplate. Also, anything acidic (like lemons, tomato juice etc) will eat the finish off of the silverplate as well. Why don't you go to the store and buy some Hagerty Silver Cream or any other Silver cleaning foam or cream designed especially to clean silverplate and sterling. It's too easy to scratch silverplate and the finish is just that: it's PLATED. It will wear off eventually and why speed the process up by using something not recommended by the manufacturer? There are silver creams and such that are on the market just to clean silverplate and sterling. I would never use anything but these. That's what they're for and they won't hurt your silverplate. Once you damage it, you'll have to try to have it replated and believe me, it's just not worth the money or time. You could buy NEW silverplate for what it would cost to have it replated. So save yourself some time and money. The silver cream and foam will effectively and quickly clean your silverplate. It's easy and also has a tarnish resistant property to it that will help retard the tarnish. Also, if you can, it would help to store the silverplate in a silverchest designed for sterling which keeps the air out and the light. Sunlight and room lighting will hasten the tarnishing and exposure to air will also hasten tarnishing. Hope this helps!!
