Silly question about a wash cloth!?

Question:Why is it when you wash dishes, you use a wash cloth and soap...but after a while it starts to smell...even if you really clean the cloth good in the sink...so then you have to put it into a different tub of water with different soap to make it smell better!! Why is this?

Answers:
Because you are cleaning dirty dishes with that cloth. It picks up the smell from the different things you have washed. And if it sets to long bacteria will grow in the cloth causing a bad smell.

That horrible smell is called mildew. No matter how well you clean your wash cloth, eventually it will smell. You can launder it, hang it in the sun to dry and it will take longer to start smelling bad again...but it will happen again. You could use a sponge (I got my at Wal-Mart), that is made so it won't smell...period. Try it! I know you'll like it!
The cloth gets moldy , pure and simple
It should be bleached once in a while
or laundered at least weekly.
ironic, isn't it?

it's all about bacteria.

a great way to deter the washcloth from becoming funky is to rinse it out well after uses (with a bit of bleach water would be swell), put it in the microwave for 60 seconds and then let it air dry (not scrunched up in a dripping wet blob in the sink) between uses.

but the key is the lovely environment for bacteria to grow when you DON'T let it dry properly.

you should probably use a clean one every few days anyway... or every time you do laundry, throw it in.
Not silly. It picks up germs and bacteria as you use it, and in a warm house it is going to grow some new life forms. They smell. I use a different cloth daily, and I use white ones so I can bleach them once in a while. Hanging them on a line in the sun after laundering rather than drying in the dryer works, too.
You need to change them FREQUENTLY. Then wash and dry them thoroughly in hot water.
The agitation of the washer would knock the dirt and bacteria out of it.Plus I bleach mine...
