How do you wash and dry a quilt?

Question:It's recently bought, cotton, with polyester filling.

I'm mainly worried about how to prevent the filling bunching up or losing its fluffiness (and hence its warmth).

Answers:
Machine wash gentle, mild soap, line dry, protect from direct sun (fading).

These are the directions I put onto the label for every quilt I make.

I would put it in a commercial front loader washer. That gives plenty of room, without a dasher to beat up the thing. Then gentle dry or line dry.
I wash most of my quilts in my washer with Woolite and cold water. I then put them on the "air" setting in my dryer to fluff them and hang them on a clothesline to dry. Works out beautifully. If your quilt is machine- or hand-quilted all over, the polyester shouldn't bunch up.
Just wash and dry on delicate. It'll be fine on delicate.
Use one of of those new fangled things.....a washing machine, I hear they save on rock pounding for the little woman.
take it to the Laundromat or dry cleaner just to be safe
