What is a good way to get rid of burnt glass using house hold materials? [see details inside]?

Question:I have a candle and its in a glass vase type a thing right? Well one night the flame got really big and made the glass all black and I washed it and scrubbed it but it won't come off. What are somethings I can use to get rid of it without harming the glass?

PS: The candle is still inside it so i can't summerge the whole thing and its only on the top.

Answers:
you can still submerge under water. It will not harm the candle if you let the wick dry. warm or hot soapy water should take it right off.

On a small area of glass. try one of the acid based oven cleaner liquids to see if it will eat the carbon, remember to wear gloves and apply it in a well ventilated room.
Dampen a paper towel and sprinkle it with a little baking soda. Rub the burned area, then wipe it with a clean damp cloth to remove the soda residue. Baking soda can clean lots of things without scratching them.
