How to get rid of tea stains in mugs without using bleach?

Question:I don't want to use anything too harsh. All ideas welcome. Thanks.

Answers:
Yes, baking soda is good. Salt is good. As a waitress I used to use old lemon slices from the bar and table salt to clean the coffee pots. Let the lemon and salt sit in the pot for a few minutes, then swish and rinse well.

Have you tried bicarbonate of soda( Baking Soda) My Grandma used to swear by it, also a very mild solution will clean your teeth beautifully!
try bicarbonate of soda and hot water
Rub the stain gently with table salt and then rinse.
I find a normal scourer and washing up liquid get rid of them!
White vinegar.
try baby bottle sterilising fluid.smells a little bleachy but works a treat and its safe
you can try salt and ice put it in mug and swirl it works with coffee pots
put some washing powder or detergent..put some in your cups and fill with hot water the powder will get rid of all you stains and tea spoons too...works a treat...
i always use soap powder in hot water in the washing up bowl and leave to soak for a bit rinse thoroughly
I would pour a little powdered Cascade in the bottom, add hot water, stir and let it sit. Works great in thermoses so might work for you also. Seems like I'm outvoted by vinegar so far.
I used a few Oxy Clean granules and it worked wonderfully.
Try using fizzy denture cleaning tablets. They also work great in thermos bottles, and cleaning buildup in vases.
bleach is a definite no no. The only thing I have found that works is a mildly abrasive pad with a little washing up liquid. You need to budge the limescale which is what the tea stains, so bleaching or any other kind of lightening product only takes the colour out of the limescale, so that is what needs to be removed. Good luck. Lott
I work offshore as a caterer, and we use Milton fluid to clean the tea stains off of the cups here, you can buy this in most conveneint stores, supermarkets and even chemists.
It will bring your cups up very clean and stain free again, and also because it anti-bacteriacidal, its very hygenic.
pop it in the dish washer
Table salt in water will do the trick. Also the blue paper towels (like in public toilets/schools) seem to work if you wipe the cups out with it.
Try 1/2 a sterrident tablet dissolved in the cup. Leave for about 10 to 15Min's.You will find it does the trick.
soda bicarbonate and lemon juice with some hot water make sure you rinse well
hydrogen poroxide. its safe, clean and cheap.
Try vinegar- I have this fantastic book about vinegar and it does everything ! Its usually white vinegar though.
I USE FLAT SCOURERS BOUGHT IN ASDA
Use a flexible scouring cloth with plenty of detergent on it. Rinse well. If badly stained I suggest that a very diluted solution of bleach, about a tablespoon full to a sink of water and leave them to soak for an hour. Rinse well and then use the scourer after every cup of tea they are used for.
lemon juice
hammer and chisel or jet spray or sandblasting or wire brush
and white spirit or sulphuric acid or dishwasher liquid poured onto the stain and a toothbrush applied in a brushing up and down movement [in a similar way and pressure used to clean teeth]may work
Mr. Clean dry eraser
sterident or other sterilising fluid/ denture cleaning tablets. non toxic and quick. Also quite funn it you use hot water and sterident tablet, kids love to watch it bubble up and over, just dont let them touch it.
Soda Crystals with boiling water. Teasp. into cup and pour boiling water on them. Leave for half hour then try to wash it off. Sometimes it works well but bleach is the best solution
sand
use salt and a scouring pad, rub hard
