Why is the washer/dryer in the kitchen in Britain? Why not a laundry room, like in the USA?

Question:

Answers:
thats the european way. they will most likely think it is weird to have a seperate room for them. having enough excess room to put them in a seperate room is what makes us american pigs.

Every house I've lived in in my life (& all of them were are in the US) has had the washer and dryer in the kitchen. Our current house has them in a little closet in the kitchen.
In the USA, laundry rooms are a relatively new thing.
Most houses built before the 1960s don't have one. Most apartments built before the 70s don't have one.

People did their wash in the kitchen or the basement. Some people did it in the garage or even in the car port or out behind the house.
