New shirt, bad smell?
Question:I got a new shirt at Kohls and noticed when I got it home that it had a faint chemical smell (sort of like a home perm or hair dye). I washed it twice and if anything the smell has gotten worse. Then I soaked it in Arm and Hammer Laundry Boost, which didn't help, now I'm soaking it in Borax, but the smell just won't go away.
What else can I try? It's colored, so no bleach. Have you ever had this happen? I really like this shirt.
Answers:
The spray clothes with a chemical that keeps them crisp and new smelling ... Remember there was a baby that died from that? id spray febreeze on it then I would try that colorsafe bleach ... let it soak for a few hours... Let it dry outside... not in the dryer ...
Can't you take it back to Kohls and ask if you could exchange it for another?
well sometimes when i buy a new shirt it smeels like fabric, and store.. but what i do is i put it in the washer and add lots of deturgent, and when i take it out it smells great.
Hang it outside in the wind, dust it with baking soda, just let is sit in your closet, perfume it so it smells better.
the shirt is not washed and it smells of machines through ehich it is passed or it might be contained in polly bag that smalled
Sounds like you are doing everything right! I bought one years ago, that was sort of crocheted, and it always had a weird smell...like wet rope~it was just the yarns that were used I guess...can't think of the name right now. If soaking/washing it in baking soda then Downy doesn't help, I would just take it back:)
Good Luck!!
Take it back and get a refund.Hope I helped!
umm i dunno.try hand washing it with Tide. hang it up outside and air dry it, dont put it in the dryer.
hope it works...XD
good luck.
Take it back. The smell will more than likely never come out. I bought a shirt a few years ago and kept washing it and the smell never came out. Eventually it ended up in my rag bag and even after using it to clean I could still smell the chemical smell.
