Do you hang your clothes out on a clothes line or use a dryer?
Question:Why or why not?
I only hang heavy towels, blankets & pillowcases out, because it saves energy, but I love the way they smell... "outdoor fresh"!
Answers:
Nothing smells as fresh and clean as sheets dried in the sunshine. Same goes for most clothing. At work one day a co-worker commented on what a nice fresh cologne I was wearing; I wasn't wearing cologne, but my t-shirt and jeans were line dried the day before. Some clothing need a dryer to 'iron' out the permenant press, but dryers are hard on natural fibers. My friend hates towels dried on a line because they get a little stiff and abrasive, but you know that slight abrasion just might be a good exfoliant for the skin. Give me a line any day and to hell with the homeowners association!
Our homeowner's association will not allow clothes lines. However, if it were up to me I would be hanging them out to dry. The clothes smell so fresh, it saves gas/electric energy, but it uses a little of mine which is a good thing.
i line dry all of my shirts and nice pants to prevent them from shrinking, plus they last longer that way. the dryer can wear out fabrics quickly. not a good idea to put bra's in the dryer because it wears out the elastic quality too fast...
i like jeans and towels in the dryer so they come out nice and fluffy/soft.
Doesn't what the type or fabric is......Dryer
I don;t have clothes lines but i have a roung wooden fence for kids to stay in that area and i hang clothes on there, that persons right they do smell so fresh and clean from hanging out.I also use the dryer ; but only when i have to ; like if it;s raining when i need to dry the clothes; but rather hang them,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I use a dryer most of the time just because it is the "normal" way of drying clothes but hanging clothes on a line is easy to so I do take advantage of the summer heat.
I use the line as often as possible for everything that's washable--there's 5 of us in this family so it really makes a difference in the electric bill.
i let my jeans air dry because if i put them in the dryer they are suppper tight.
& thats good that you are saving energy tooo (:
Dryers take such a toll on the fabrics. I hate how some items become "bare-threaded' so quickly. Although air drying does make clothing/towels a bit stiff, they will soften some once they are stored in the closets for a bit of time. Also, towels seem to be more absorbent when using to dry after showers and baths.
And, saving energy/money, wear and tear on the dryer and late-night noise are also definite pluses as well. We use a retractable clothes line that is automatically rewound when not in use. It's located on a porch with an over-head cover, so unexpected rain showers don't spoil drying efforts.
I only line dry items if my dryer is broke. I'm the opposite...I would never hang towels. They are too heavy and take to long to dry in the dryer much less outside. I did try line drying a few years back (when my dryer broke and so was I and I couldn't get a new one for a while) They always seemed stiff and hard. I don't know something bout the dryer made them fluffy and soft. After like 2 loads being line dried, I took to laundry to my in-laws to wash.
I'm going to be honest...I don't...cause I'm lazy. I think its a hassle hanging it up with clothes pins and then taking it down. I know it saves energy, but I use those special light bulbs all around my house and have a special thermostat for my heating and cooling of the house so I figure that buys me a pass to not have line dry my clothes and let me use my beloved dryer.
