Moving to a new house- need some cleaning tips?

Question:I am moving to a new house next month but the interior is a little run down to say the least. The kitchen was once white but is now a nasty shade of yellow and the bath and toilet, well the less said the better. How can I clean the kitchen units to bring them up white again and how do I get nasty stains off the bath and toilet? Would prefer some natural remedies as I am pregnant and trying to stay away from harsh chemicals, any advice welcome though.

Answers:
Sugar soap is also known as 'decorators soap', decorators use it before they repaint because it gets all the grease off the walls without leaving a chemical residue. Use it on the walls and ceilings.
White (distilled) vinegar is brilliant, because its anti bacterial and anti fungal as well as safe. It also dissolves grease. And bicarbonate of soda is the same plus it removes stains. For both you use a teaspoon to a pint, but the bicarb needs very hot water and a drop of vinegar.
I'd use Flash lemon on the kitchen cabinets.

If the bath is enamel then fill it with hot water and add a few tablets of dishwasher detergent, leave it to soak then rinse well. It will work in the loo as well.

sugar soap is very good ::::::
you'll probably have to strip and repaint the cabinets, a nasty job even if you're not preggers. the toilet and bath can be cleaned using something called CLR (calcium, lime, and rust) available at your supermarket. but it's fairly toxic. also, there's something called a pumice stone, available at hardware stores, for scrubbing stubborn stains off porcelin. you might wanna hire someone for these chores, since you probably don't wanna be around this crap while preggers.
The toilet: replace the seat, don't waste your time with it.

I would hire a professional cleaner to come in to get the place in shape. They can do a better, faster job than you could with natural products. I would paint the kitchen once they were done with a no/low VOC (volatile compound) paint that can be purchased at any Benjamin Moore retailer (eco something).

If I was determined to do it then, I would just get a good respirator mask from the hardware store and some heavy duty gloves then pull out the big gun chemicals.

Go with g.m,sugar soap cleans paint, kitchen units, tiles, walls. In fact you name it will do it. A bit of elbow grease and sugar soap will have your kitchen looking like a new pin !
When it's done can we come around for a glass of wine ?

g.m I like your logo
If you can't use natural things like baking soda, vinager, and elbow grease, then have someone else do this work for you. Keep your health and that of your baby.

I'm not sure of sugar soap. I think they mean tri-calcium phosphate which we use here in the states to prepare walls for paint. Spick(spelled without the 'k') and Span has that in it for a base.

If someone else does this cleaning for you, be sure to air out well before you go in, especially if they use good old chemicals. Be safe.

Congratulations on your new bundle!
