Why does fresh bed linen always feel cooler on the first night sleeping in it?

because fresh washed material is "flat" so to speak. Hence it retains less heat.

Probably because it has been folded in a drawer or linen closet away from body heat and the rest of the blankets.I would like to think we might sleep a little better on cooler sheets too. Also a "cooler" pillow is good for better sleep and reducing headaches.
