Anyone know how to make a solvent to remove sticky residue instead of buying Goo Be Gone?
Question:I'd like to try to make something at home before I buy Goo Be Gone...any ideas?
Answers:
Goo Be Gone is made from petroleum distillates, and Non-ionic deterrents. Try mineral oil and pine oil. I'm not sure of the ratio, I just pour them together. And it smells better than Goo be Gone.
Just knowing what Goo be Gone is made from will probably help you make your own recipe.
go buy the goo be gone for 1.99
Personally i dislike goo be gone.
If the surface is hard (a counter top or floor) you could try just putting some baking soda and water on top and scrubbing (more baking soda than water..so that it forms a pastey like texture)...the grains in the baking soda will scrub the sticky residu out.
If its on wood i would not suggest doing this because it might scratch.
If its something that you can do this with - try putting it in the freezer (if its a pillow case, article of clothing) ...when my siblings get gum stuck to their clothes - or sometimes their shirts go through the wash with stickers on them and it makes a MESS - i put it in the freezer and then its easy to just peel off.
If its something like your sofa cushion, maybe you can try actually rubbing some ice over it to get it cold (like you would in the freezer) and then try to peel it off.
Hot water might work equally as well as the ice to get the stickey residue soft) but this might be messy!
Good luck!!
WD-40 works on goo. and everything else.
