What do YOU have on YOUR cleaning list?
Question:I am 20 years old and living at home still while I go to college.
Our house is VERY big (about 6,000 square feet which does not include the basement or 5 car garage!!) and it takes a LONG time to clean!
Becuase I'm usually good at it, my mom has asked me to come up with a weekly list of "house hold chorse". What is to be done on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays etc...
Some things need to be done every day (dishes for example) and some things need to be done only once a week (washing bedding for example)
And then there are other things that should maybe be done once a month (Dusting above doorways and windows etc..)
With this list we are hoping to avoid having things build up (like the dust building up above those door ways!!) ..
What things would YOU do every day
A few times a week
Once a week
Once a month...etc...
(Just curious. Maybe other people have better ideas than I do. And maybe theres something that somebody else has on their list that i forgot!!)
Answers:
I congratulate you for your wonderful, helpful attitude.
Every day: Dishes, clean up the kitchen, clean the bathroom, laundry and ironing (and put it away). Clean microwave (if you do it daily it won't be such a big job later.)
Every week: mop the floors, vacuum carpet, change bed linen, clean mirrors, general dusting.
Every month: Clean out the refrigerator, vacuum stuffed furniture, dust ceiling fans and wall ornaments. Clean the front door and sill. Change furnace filters.
(As needed: clean the oven, wash the wastebaskets)
I'm a pretty casual housekeeper, because sometimes it gets cluttered, but it is never filthy. My mother always said the house should be clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy.
If you really want to find out what to do and how to do it, get the book "How Clean Is Your House?" by Kim Woodburn and Aggie MacKenzie. They have the television show by the same name, but this book is great. It lists absolutely everything and gives instructions, too. I think it's a little "overkill" but very good information.
Have fun. Housekeeping can be therapeutic.
dust and sweep once a week vacume one a week clean the bathroom twice a week
A Few Times A Week:
Vacuum--I have a toddler so you might not need to do this a few times a week.
Clean the Bathrooms--Helps keep the buildup of hair products, makeup, and toothpaste so it's easier to clean when you do a thorough cleaning.
Laundry--Keeps from getting mounds of laundry piled up
Once I week I clean the fridge out, and the stove--so much easier than waiting till things get cooked on and having to use some sort of oven cleaner.
Once a week:
Clean all bedding
Santize and throughly clean the bathrooms
Mop all the floors
Clean all the vents
Once a month:
Clean all the windows
Change the filters for the air
Dust and wipe down everything
These are just a few of things, it's hard for me to get to it all with a little one.
I am hispanic so this is what I KEEP! mbwahaha
1. Fabuloso
2. Spray, like tilex
3. Sponges
4. swiffer
5. broom
6. rags
After keeping the house clean, all you have left is after dinner time.
After dinner i wash dishes and put them away and then I spray down the stove, counter, table. Then I soak small washcloths in Fabuloso (it's like spanish Pinesol)
then i scrub all the stains with a spongebob that has a brillo side. Then I ring out the washcloth and wipe everything down with it, then with papertowel I dry everything. And it's squeaky clean
everyday-dishes, sweep the floor, and wipe off kitchen counters. every 2 days, i vacume, wipe off doorknobs and light switches with lysol, and dust; every 3 days i mop ,do laundry, and water my plants; every week or two i do the bedding. once a month i wipe down walls that gather dust when i can reach them;
