Good way to clean fans (not ceiling fans)?

Question:Summer is coming and I want to keep them sparkling! ;)

thank you...

Answers:
My dad always used a nozzle on an air compressor hose to clean dust out of fans. Do this only outdoors!

You have to take the grill off and remove the blade. If it does not come apart then there is really no practical way to clean it.
I always remove the cover(unplug your fan of course) use a washcloth that is slightly damp with water and wipe the blades. Let it dry a few minutes and replace the cover. :)
keep the dust in your house to a minimal and stay on top of the fans threw out summer
Canned air
I have hubby take ours apart, vacuum off the large dust particles and use canned air on the electrical portions and wash the blades with 409 or other cleaner. The biggest hint I can give, is ENDUST on the blades will keep the dust from accumulating so fast. Just a light spray on both sides really keeps them cleaner, longer.
I've seen some of Paris Hilton's fans. These people really look like they could use a good cleaning! ;-)
usually the fan has screws take them out and their should be a knob turn it and the blade should come off i put the blades in water and cleaner then take a vaccum and clean the motor and the other parts you can also put the front and back panel in water and cleaner let soak and wash real good and let them dry good before reassembling them be sure the fan is unplugged
I take the fan guard off and then I take out the prop. Make sure your fan is unplugged and take a old hand towel with 409 and I spray the guard and prop outside with 409 rinse and wipe and then I do the rest inside with a hand towel and 409 and rinse with a clean hand towel (that is cleaning the back of the guard that don`t come out also the knobs and the stand and cord and it should look like new again! In the winter when I am not using my fans. I clean them and put them in big garage bags and tie them that way they are nice and clean when you use them again! Good Luck!
If it is a fan that stands up,I always take it apart, put it in some bleached, hot, water in the bathtub and let it sit for a hour or so so,dry it,and put it back together.
That is if it was a fan that stands, and if it is not painted you never no if the paint will were of.That would be BAD!! LOL
My dad used an air compressor to blow off the dust. You could also use a shop-vac with the brush attachment as well.

The facing can be removed and washed in some cases, then you can take a damp cloth and wipe the blades. (Be sure it's unplugged first, obviously)
unscrew the cage thing and wipe it off with a wet paper towel
I usually take the grill off and I spray Fantastic on the blades and wipe clean!
Take off the grill, put it in the bathtub with soapy water, let it soak a few minutes, then scrub with a scrub brush, rinse with HOT water and let dry on a towel. Take off blade and do the same thing.if it doesn't come off just wipe it up as best as possible. Vacuum out any other parts to get all of the dust off of the control area. Put it all back together.

Once it is all together you can clothespin a fabric softener sheet to the front top of the fan for a room freshener.
Take the from of the fan off and wipe down the inside of the fan blades with a damp towel. If the cover doesn't come off then I would say that getting it clean would be impossible. some of the older fans have small screws holding the cover on.
