My high efficiency washer smells like mildew. What is the problem?
Question:And what can I do about it?
Answers:
Mine came with the instructions to leave its door wide open when not in use.
To kill the mildew, run it empty with bleach. Then leave it open.
mildew. pour a bunch of bleach in there and run it
keep the lid open on your washer when you aren't using it.
Always leave the washer door/lid open when not in use. Prop it open or rig a string to pull it up. Side doors can be left ajar.
When it does not dry in between washings, then there will be mildew growth.
for each time you use it there is a little water left in the bottom of the tub, the spin cycle will not empty this. With a moldy smell in the tub, it is also coming from your drain hose as well. Follow recommendations in your owners manual, it is the best way to keep your warranty intact. If you must use some other means of freshening the tub, put settings on low and drop about 3 cups of bleach in water, then rinse once with clean water so you wont ruin any colors from the bleach.
Run your machine on the highest setting & add a cup of bleach, do the same again & add a cup of vinegar , this will give the machine a good clean inside and also to the pipes
There must be some moisture in the machine somewhere or you have left clothes in there for too long or it could even be that your water is too hard I really can not pinpoint your problem area, but I can help you get rid of the mildew smell, just pour in a cup of White Vinegar in hot water without clothes or detergent added put through a full cycle, this will remove your mildew odors once and for all. Good Luck !
